Gout Symptoms
The common symptoms of gout are; swelling, hot to touch, inflammation, redness, and excruciating pain in joints. This occurs mostly in the big toe and foot, but it can be the ankle, knee, or any other joint.
Gout Symptoms Causes
Any gout symptom is caused by uric acid crystals that have formed in your joints. These occur when there is an excess of uric acid in our bloodstream. And uric acid is a by-product of the breakdown of chemicals called ‘purines’ in our body. Purines occur naturally in our body cells and in foods.

Gout relief can be achieved through traditional drug-based treatments; however these can have unnecessary side effects such as nausea, and diarrhoea. So, gout sufferers are increasingly turning to well tested natural gout treatments. There are several Natural remedies that have been found effective in gout symptom relief:-
1. Ingest a daily glass of cider vinegar to help lowering uric acid levels and assist pain relief.
2. Drink plenty of water, at least 3 litres per day, to flush excess uric acid from your body.
3. In general try to eat foods high in fibre to assist regulating and cleaning out your system
4. Eat those foods that are high in vitamin E and vitamin C.
5. Take multi vitamins if you are not getting good levels of vitamin E and C.
6. Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit; but avoid mushrooms, asparagus, or cauliflower.
7. Fruits that are good for gout relief are cherries, and also blueberries and strawberries.
8. Avoid eating red meat, offal, poultry, shellfish, sardines & mackerel, as they are rich in purine which is a key contributor to gout condition. Uric acid which causes your gout symptoms comes from the breakdown of purines in your diet.

Roche have announced that Chugai their partner company now have approval from Japanese authorities for the use of its innovative arthritis treatment drug, Actemra (tocilizumab) for rheumatoid arthritis and also for juvenile idiopathic arthritis and systemic-onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis which affect children.
The Japanese approval is based on data from clinical trials conducted in that country showing that Actemra was highly effective in controlling the symptoms and progression of this disease. Actemra is already being sold in Japan for patients with a rare auto-immume condition known as Castleman’s disease and licence applications have also been filed for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in the USA and the European Union during 2007.
Actemra is a humanized interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor-inhibiting monoclonal antibody, and is the first of a new class of drug with a novel mechanism of action that brings new hope to rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. The drug works by suppressing the activity of IL-6, an important trigger of the inflammatory process and so reduces inflammation of the joints and relieves the systemic effects of rheumatoid arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a progressive autoimmune disease which causes inflammation of the membrane lining in the joints. The inflammation causes swelling of the joints and reduced functionalityas well as stiffness and swelling and significan pain. Prolonged suffering leads to irreversible disability from joint destruction. Other systemic symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include anaemia, osteoporosis, fatigue, and usually shortened life expectancy.
Within 10 years, over 50% of effected people can no longer work or function with a normal daily routine. Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is considered a very severe disease with unknown cause associated with symptoms in joints occurring in children aged below sixteen. Patients have many similarities to rheumatoid arthritis accompanied by systemic symptoms, like remittent fever.

The St. Louis Cardinals and Harley-Davidson sponsored a great local biker event in Southern Illinois to help fight childhood arthritis.
The poker run which included giveaway gifts from both the Cardinals and Harley Davidson, began with a pancake and sausage breakfast and ending with a dinner Saturday and raised good money for the Arthritis Foundation of Southern Illinois.
Dozens of bikers and passengers got together last Saturday and rode for the cause. The bikers took off around 11:00 a.m. for the all day poker ride run to benefit arthritis. Each rider donated $15 to run, with passengers donating an additional five dollars. Keep up the good work Connie Flowers and the Southern Illinois Arthritis Foundation.
